The majority of gardeners have always loved border phlox. This delicious perennial can be used for a moist border in sun or partial shade. They make good cut flowers and are attractive to butterflies. The colours are lovely, and the flowers have sweetly fragrant, evening scent which is lovely in the cool of the day, and they are very easy to grow.

This new selection has a beautiful, improved colour range of white, salmon, salmon rose and salmon red through to deep rose, purple, violet, burgundy and carmine.
Each bud opens in succession, enabling the plant to bloom continually throughout summer. They will flower in the first year, around February if sown in early July.

Sowing advice
Sow in winter through to summer or sow in late autumn.
Approx 32 weeks are needed from seeding to bloom.
These seeds need a period of moisture and cold before they will germinate.
If you are not planting in autumn / winter, where temperatures are cold, this period can be artificially stimulated by placing the seed in a refrigerator (approx 4 deg C.)
Soak the seeds for ten minutes in water, then place them in the middle of a dampened kitchen paper towel which has been folded in 4 . Leave for four weeks, checking after the 2md week for germination. If you find one which has sprouted lift it carefully out and sow into a pot. After the 4 weeks is up, then bring the seeds out and sow them in cells or pots in moist seed raising mix for germination. Sprinkle seed raising mix very finely over them. Germination usually takes 14 to 28 days at 0 to 4°C, or 7 to 14 days at 15 to 18 °C.
Once the seedlings are large enough to handle, (about 3-4 weeks after sowing) transplant to individual pots, 8-10cm and grow on at around 10°C. Pinching the top once after transplanting will produce a more compact plant habit and will increase the quantity of flowers.
