This  pretty , easy care plant has deep green foliage which forms a mound , and from this mound come the airy graceful flowers with their ragged petals , which stand high above the leaves on dark red stems. It likes soils which are moist such as the banks of streams and ponds, but can also tolerate averagely dry  soils, and grows in its natural habitat in moist fields and grasslands.It can tolerate partial shade, and is attractive to bees and butterflies. It makes an excellent cut flower and flowers in its first year from seed.

 

Note that we have increased the amount of seeds in the packet due to the germination rate being lower than expected

Sowing advice

Sow in spring and summer in pots or trays on the surface of moist seed raising mix. Don’t cover the seed as light aids germination. Keep the seed moist and at about 20 deg C. germination will occur in about 2-3 weeks.
