Lychnis chalcedonica var. alba seeds – ( White Maltese Cross)

It is believed that this species was  introduced via the crusaders from the eastern mediterranean  and Eurasia . It is the pure white form of the normally bright red Lychnis chalcedonica. It makes a good cut flower and thrives in dry or average soil.  It is an undemanding plant which is easy to grow. It is called the Maltese Cross for its flowers which are in the shape of a cross.

Sowing Advice

Sow in spring and early summer, sow in trays or pots
Sow the seeds onto moist seed raising mix, and just press into the soil, as they require light to  germinate. Keep the soil moist (not wet)  while germination occurs and cover with a sheet of glass or plastic to conserve moisture. Germination takes about 2-3 weeks. Plant out when about 6 cm in height.
