This attractive ligularia likes moist soil, and does well in bog areas. It has handsome dark green leaves which make a very ornamental foliage mound and the small yellow flowers borne in spires on black stems , are like tall yellow candles, which light up the location in which they are growing. It will grow in part shade and on the banks for streams and ponds and is a vigorous plant which needs very little care.

Sowing advice

Sow at anytime. Sow in pots or trays. Sow thinly into moist well-drained seed compost. Just press them into the mix with your hands.,as light aids germination. Keep moist ( cover the pot with plastic bag or cling film ). Propagate at 20°C. Germination can be erratic and takes 14-42 days. Transplant seedlings large enough to handle to 8cm pots. Acclimatise and plant out after danger of frost has passed .
