Description

This plant is native to the Sydney area of Australia.  It has handsome sword like leaves which are about 1 metre high , and it forms a stately plant .  From the leaves arise long stems of bright  red , trumpet shaped flowers which are held far above the foliage and can be up to 6m high.  The flowers , of which there can be up to 100 in a spike , appear in the winter time, when there is little else in flower. The plant is a long lived perennial, and is a valuable addition to landscape plans, Being such a statuesque and attractive plant . As an added bonus  it is  drought and even  fire resistant.

Sowing advice

Sow the seeds in pots or trays , in a good quality seed raising or potting mix,. Sow in autumn, and only just cover them with mix as they require light to germinate. Keep them moist and at about 17-20 deg C. They should germinate in 1-2 months.
