Description

Picture thanks to Plant World Seeds

This lovely little  plant has a colour range of white ( rarely) through pink to dark pink and all of the subtle colours in between. It looks wonderful planted in drifts.  It is a  small hardy plant which does well in partial to full shade under trees and bushes .  It flowers in winter when there is little else flowering and grows to about 20 cm, making it perfect for pathway edging , and ground cover in shady places. The leaves are striking with marbled cream and grey  patterns on them .  The plant will go dormant over the summer and lose its leaves , so another type of  bulb which comes up in summer and dies down in autumn  can be grown quite close to them with no ill effects. They are quite hardy and can withstand frost quite well.

Note: 10 seeds per packet

Sowing advice

Plant the seeds in late summer, autumn , or early winter. Soak the seeds for about  24 hours in water to which a little dishwashing detergent has been added. Drain and wash with clean water.  Cover the seed to its own depth with seed raising mix.  Keep moist and at about 10-15 Deg C. Germination will take about 6-10 weeks.  Keep the seedlings for 2 years  in the same pot. When they go dormant in the 2nd year, plant them outside. Mark where you have planted them as you may forget where they are planted  and dig them up accidentally!
