This showy plant has very pretty flower spires, which can be red, magenta or purple. The foliage is slightly furry and is aromatic . It looks handsome in a container , and can tolerate some drought, but is best watered through the summer. It likes well drained soils and enjoys the sun but is best placed in partial shade in areas which have hot sun in the summer months. The flowers are excellent for cutting , and attract the beneficial insects such as bees and butterflies. It does equally well in beds and borders, and is almost disease and pest free.
Sowing advice
Sow the seeds on the surface of moist seed raising mix in pots or trays. Dont cover the seeds as light is required for germination. water using a mister or from the bottom of the pot to avoid driving the seeds under the soil. Ideal temperature 20 Deg C. Seeds can germinate in about 14 days , but germination can take up to 35 days.
