This is a mix of colours in purples,  pinks and whites with a yellow central eye. The flowers are borne on stems and look like drumsticks. They  can be cut for floral work.  It prefers moist fertile soils , can tolerate clay and wet soils , and can be grown in sun or in partial shade. It does not tolerate drought well. It does best in temperatures which are cool and doesn’t like humid hot summers.  Ideal for the South Island and cooler  areas of the North Island but will not do well in Northern areas.

Sowing advice

Sow the seeds on the surface of moist seed raising mix in pots or trays.  Don’t cover them as light assists germination.  Keep them moist by watering with a mister, or from the base of the pot , so as not to drive the seeds down under the mix.  Ideal Temperature 20 Deg C. Seeds should germinate in about 2-4 weeks. If they don’t germinate in this time cover the pot with plastic and put into the fridge at about 4 deg C for about 4 weeks.  Bring them back out  after this time to about 20 deg C, and remove the plastic cover .
