This is a lovely long blooming annual plant which has pretty red flowers which have a silken sheen edged sometimes with black. The flowers are about 3 cm wide and they add an airy light feel to a border. It blends particularly well with other delicate flowering plants such as coreopsis , harebell and gypsophila. It is very easily grown from seed, and likes the soil to be light and a little on the dry side, and is good in xeriscaped gardens .
Sowing advice for Linum grandiflorum
Sow in spring and summer. Sow directly where they are to flower at 2-3 week intervals for a succession of flowers.Sow into soil which has been well prepared and raked very finely. Don’t cover the seeds as light is required for germination. Ideal temp 21 deg C. Germination takes 5-10 days
