This is a rare and unusual perennial which is native to southern Europe.
It produces many 4cm sky blue flower heads rather like pom poms on tall stems all summer long. It is easy to grow and makes a very good cut flower.
The foliage is low growing and a grey -green.
Jasione looks good in the rock garden or front of the border. It grows best in nitrogen rich soils that are sandy and well drained in full sun to light shade. the plant also can be used to advantage in a container. It flowers in the first year from seed, about 4 -5 months after germination
