Description

These flowers make extremely good  cut flowers. There is a wide range of vibrant colour in this mix from reds and pinks through pastel shades of coral, apricot and primrose to cream . The flowers are long-lasting . Each flower is 12 cm approx across. The plant grows to approx 60 cm( with flowers) , and flowers continuously all summer, and in Northern parts of New Zealand they will flower in the winter as well. It prefers a light position and coolish temperatures with temperatures no greater than 20 degrees. It likes well drained soil which does not stay damp, but does not like to become bone dry. In warmer areas of New Zealand it can be grown outside and will come back for you each year. These seeds are similar to the gerbera that our grandmothers grew, and they still flower reliably each year for us with the minimum of fuss and care, paying little attention to any hybridising which has occurred in their journey to get to our gardens

Sowing advice

Sow the seed as soon as you receive them , into moist seed raising mix. Push the seeds gently into the soil until only the ‘feather’ end is showing above the soil. Keep moist but not waterlogged and propagate at about 20-25 deg C . ( A sunny window sill or glasshouse is ideal.) The seeds will germinate in about 3 weeks. Transplant them to larger pots when they can be handled and plant out in their final position  when they are about 20 cm tall and there is no likelihood of frosts.
