This plant produces large , very vivid dark purple blue flowers in clusters near the tops of the stems , which stand out well in the garden. The plant forms clumps of matted green leaves which form a good ground cover, and these can suppress weeds well, without being too unruly and invasive. Due to the length of the stem and the keeping qualities of the flower they make an excellent cut flower which lasts well. It likes full sun, but will also tolerate partial shade, and is frost hardy.
Sowing advice
Sow the seeds in late autumn , winter or early spring, on the surface of moist seed raising mix in trays or pots. Don’t cover them as light aids germination.Keep them at about 20 deg C and keep the mix moist ( but not waterlogged) watering from the bottom of the pot or using a mister to availd driving the seeds down into the soil. They should appear in about 2-4 weeks. If they don’t germinate , cover the pot with a clear film and put into the fridge for about 3 weeks.
