This long lived and trouble free plant bears a myriad of blue pea type flowers, which are somewhat like those of a lupin, and grows to a small bush. It is almost insect free and disease resistant making it a low maintenance plant for the garden. It makes a good container plant. Its flowers are good for cutting and as an additional bonus its seed pods make an attractive accent in floral arrangements.
It was historically used for medicinal purposes by the Native American people.
It has won the award of garden merit from the Royal Horticultural Society, and was also selected as the plant of the year by the Perennial Plant Association.
Sowing advice
Seeds can be sown at any time but are best sown in winter or early spring . Sow in trays or pots
Sow the seeds into seed raising mix. Cover thinly and keep moist. Keep at 20 deg C. If the seeds do not come up within 8 weeks , seal the damp seed tray in a plastic bag and place in a fridge for about 4 weeks. Remove from fridge. The process may be repeated if there is no germination
