This aquilegia has upright facing double pink and rose flowers, unlike other aquilegias which hang their heads down. The flowers are produced in profusion on very strong stems. It performs well in the garden, smothering itself in pretty pink and white flowers. It is an easy care plant which will come up each year for you without fuss. It will reward you, for giving it a place in your garden , with not only its flowers, but also with its pretty fern like lacy foliage. It can also be used as an extremely attractive pot plant, if you keep it watered.
Sowing advice
Sow in spring and autumn. Sow seed on the surface of lightly firmed, seed raising mix in pots or trays. Cover seed with a very light sprinkle of mix as light helps germination. Keep the surface of the compost moist but not waterlogged. Germination should occur within 2 to 3 weeks. When large enough to handle, transplant seedlings into 7.5cm pots or trays. Gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions for 10 to 15 days before planting out after all risk of frost, 30cm apart.
