Description
This plant forms a low clump of grassy looking leaves, producing bright magenta-purple spikes of flowers which commence flowering in midsummer. The flowers open from the top down, and are somewhat fuzzy looking. They are good cut flowers. This selection is compact in habit, which makes it a very good choice for tubs or mixed containers. It is drought tolerant, and is attractive to butterflies.
Divide plants every 3 to 4 years in the spring.
Sowing advice
Sow the seeds indoors spring in trays or pots, onto moist seed raising mix, and cover very thinly as they require light to germinate. Keep the soil moist ( not wet) while germination occurs and cover with a sheet of glass or plastic to conserve moisture. Ideal temp 21 deg during the day and 15 deg C at nights for 3 weeks. Place the seed tray in a semi shaded area. After germination keep in cooler conditions.
