The flowers are excellent for picking, and the plant is a valuable summer garden filler, adding texture to the border.

Description

This plant has large clusters of steel-blue flowers, which are somewhat prickly.
It is a valuable plant for the border or for cutting. It is excellent both as a cut flower and fresh or dried. It can be divided quite easily in early spring. It is also quite adaptable being able to tolerate hot, dry places, and salty soils . It is attractive to butterflies.

Sowing advice
Sow spring early summer late summer and early autumn.
Sow the seeds in pots or trays in good seed raising mix. Cover the seeds very thinly and keep moist at about 20 deg C. The seeds should germinate quite quickly. Keep in cooler conditions after germination occurs.
