Cosmos bipinnatus ‘Xanthos’



This plant has a uniquely coloured flower  for cosmos. The flowers are a clear soft yellow . ‘Xanthos’ won a Fleuroselect Gold medal for 2016. It is an early flowering plant, which is compact and branches well. It makes a good cut flower, and is a perfect size for the garden border. It also is good in containers. Pinch out the tips regularly for a bushier plant and deadhead it regularly to increase flowering.

It likes full sun in average medium moisture, well drained soils.

Sowing advice

Sow indoors prior to last expected frost. Sow directly after danger of frost has passed. Indoors, sow into moist, well-drained seed compost. Just cover with a sprinkling of soil. Ideal temp. 21°C. Germination takes 1-2 weeks. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle to individual pots and grown on under glass. Acclimatise and plant out after danger of frost has passed. Directly, sow into moist well-drained soil, keep moist until plants are established.
